Data Translation
Transfer Anywhere has been replaced by GoAnywhere , which is the "next generation" solution for automating and securing data movement. Click here to learn more.
Transfer Anywhere can connect to a variety of database servers, including DB2 on the iSeries, Oracle, SQL Server, Informix, Sybase and MySQL. Records (rows) can be retrieved from files on these database servers using standard SQL. A SQL Wizard is provided in Transfer Anywhere to allow you to quickly generate SQL statements to select fields, filter records and sort records.
The selected records can be converted into Excel documents, delimited text files, fixed-width text files, XML documents and HTML. As part of a cohesive transfer process, the resulting files can then be compressed and/or encrypted and then placed on the local file system, distributed to FTP servers or sent to email addresses.
Excel Database records can be converted into Microsoft ® Excel spreadsheet files. Each generated spreadsheet can support up to 65,536 rows with 256 columns. Custom column headings can also be specified in the spreadsheet.
Fixed Width Text Database records can be converted into fixed width text files. A sophisticated wizard is provided to allow you to customize the field layout of the fixed-width text file (see screen shot at bottom of page).
The first row of the text file can optionally contain column headings, which can show the field names, field descriptions or user-specified custom headings.
Delimited Text Database records can be converted into delimited text files. A variety of field delimiters are available when defining the conversion (i.e. comma, tab, pipe). You can also specify the record delimiter, text qualifier and null-substitute value.
The first row of the text file can optionally contain column headings, which can show the field names, field descriptions or user-specified custom headings.
XML Documents Database records can be converted into XML documents. As an option, a user-defined stylesheet can be applied to customize the XML layout. The first section of the XML document can contain column headings, which would show the field names, field descriptions or user-specified custom headings.
A Schema document can also be generated to define the XML data. The Schema can be distributed to trading partners so their computer systems can properly validate and interpret your XML data.
HTML Documents Database records can be converted into HTML documents. A default HTML layout can be chosen or a Stylesheet can be specified to customize the layout of the HTML document.
Screen Shot Listed below is a screen shot of the Transfer Anywhere wizard for defining a fixed width text file. Notice that you can specify the delimiters, as well as the column lengths, alignments, truncation settings and padding characters.
