GoAnywhere Services Upgrade Instructions

Windows Systems (2003/2008/XP/Vista/7)

Please follow the instructions below to upgrade GoAnywhere Services:

NOTE: If your installation is configured to run on JRE 1.5, you will need to update the GoAnywhere Services to use JRE 1.6 before running the upgrade. For more information, see

  1. Login to the Windows system as an administrator.
  2. Open Windows Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Services.
  3. In the Services window, right-click on the GoAnywhere Services service and select Stop. Within seconds after stopping the GoAnywhere Services service, its status should change to blanks.
  4. If GoAnywhere Services is configured to run on a database other than the one shipped with the product, make a backup of that database before continuing.
  5. If GoAnywhere Services is configured to run on a DB2/400 database, the user profile configured for the database connection must have *USE special authority to the ADDRPYLE and RMVRPYLE commands on DB2/400 system in order to perform the upgrade.
  6. Open a Command window and change the directory to $INSTALL_DIR\upgrader, where $INSTALL_DIR is the directory where GoAnywhere Services is installed. The default install directory is C:\Program Files\Linoma Software\GoAnywhere Services.
  7. Run the batch file named upgrade.bat to start the upgrade process. When the upgrade finishes, a message should indicate that the upgrade was successful.
  8. Restart the service by right-clicking on the GoAnywhere Services service and select Start. Its status should be updated to “Started”.
  9. Ask your users to clear the Browser's cache before signing in to GoAnywhere Services.

Linux/UNIX Systems

Please follow the instructions below to upgrade GoAnywhere Services:

  1. Login to the target system as root.
  2. Open a terminal window.
  3. Change the directory to the installation directory of GoAnywhere. For example , cd /usr/local/Linoma_Software/GoAnywhere_Services.
  4. Stop GoAnywhere Services server by running the command sh ./gaservices.sh stop.
  5. If GoAnywhere Services is configured to run on a database other than the one shipped with the product, make a backup of that database before continuing.
  6. If GoAnywhere Services is configured to run on a DB2/400 database, the user profile configured for the database connection must have *USE special authority to the ADDRPYLE and RMVRPYLE commands on DB2/400 system in order to perform the upgrade.
  7. Change the working directory to upgrader folder, located in GoAnywhere Services' installation folder. For example, cd upgrader.
  8. Run the shell script named upgrade.sh to start the upgrade process. For example, sh ./upgrade.sh. When the upgrade finishes, a message should indicate that the upgrade was successful.
  9. Change the working directory back to the GoAnywhere Services' installation directory. For example by running cd ...
  10. Restart GoAnywhere Services server by running the command ./gaservices.sh start.
  11. Ask your users to clear the Browser's cache before signing in to GoAnywhere Services.

i5/OS

Please follow the instructions below to upgrade GoAnywhere Services:

NOTE: If your installation is configured to run on JRE 1.5, you will need to update the GoAnywhere Services to use JRE 1.6 before running the upgrade. For more information, see How do I run GoAnywhere on JAVA 1.6?
  1. Sign on to the System i with the QSECOFR user profile or with a profile that has *ALLOBJ authority.
  2. End the GoAnywhere Services server by executing the ENDGAS command.
  3. Wait until the GoAnywhere Services subsystem is completely shutdown.
  4. If GoAnywhere Services is configured to run on a database other than the one shipped with the product, make a backup of that database before continuing.
  5. If GoAnywhere Services is configured to run on a DB2/400 database, the user profile configured for the database connection must have *USE special authority to the ADDRPYLE and RMVRPYLE commands on DB2/400 system in order to perform the upgrade.
  6. Make sure there are no locks on the GoAnywhere Services' installation library or objects. You can run the command WRKOBJLCK OBJ(GASERVICES) OBJTYPE(*LIB) to check for locks. Do not proceed with the upgrade until all locks are released.
  7. Apply the upgrade by executing the UPGRADEGAS command.
  8. Make sure the user profile that will be starting the subsystem has *RWX permission to the GoAnywhere installation folder and the entire directory tree.  V5R4 and later provides a command to change the authority on an entire directory tree.  For example,

    CHGAUT OBJ('/linoma/gaservices') USER(PGUSER) DTAAUT(*RWX) OBJAUT(*ALL) SUBTREE(*ALL)

    where ' /linoma/gaservices' is the installation directory and PGUSER is the user profile that will be starting the subsystem.
  9. Start the GoAnywhere Services server by executing the STRGAS command.
  10. Ask your users to clear the Browser's cache before signing in to GoAnywhere Services.

NOTE
Various commands referred above are located in the GoAnywhere installation library, which by default is GOANYWHERE.
